Our Story
We built Bagby around a feeling most people know and rarely name.
We all gave something away
Somewhere along the line, without ever quite deciding to, we let the world into the bedroom. First the phone on the nightstand. Then the scroll before sleep. Then the reach for the screen before our eyes had even adjusted to the morning. The last thing we saw at night and the first thing we saw in the morning became the same thing: everyone else's noise.
Most of us felt the cost before we could name it. The restlessness at bedtime. The mornings that started already behind. We felt it, and we reached for the phone anyway, because that is what you do with a habit you never chose on purpose.
What was harder to see was the trade. Our nights. Our mornings. The slow, unhurried surfacing from sleep that people are built for, and the quiet that belongs to the first hour of the day before anyone else needs anything from us.
Bagby exists because two people, on separate paths, decided to take that back.
Juan's story
In January 2017, Juan Sanchez and his wife tried something simple. No phones in the bedroom. Nothing to scroll before sleep, nothing to grab the moment they woke. Just the two of them, and the morning.
It held. They never brought the phones back in. The sleep was deeper. The mornings felt like their own again. What began as a private experiment became the thing they couldn't stop talking about, and then a product they launched on Kickstarter so other people could try the same thing at home. Bagby grew from there, one phone-free bedroom at a time.
R's story
R Blank arrived at the same place from a different direction.
He founded Shield Your Body in 2012, carrying forward the life's work of his father, Dr. Martin Blank. That work pointed him toward a bigger question about the devices we keep closest, and what they quietly ask of us in return. The more he looked, the more he wanted his own attention back. When he stepped away from the constant pull of the phone, what he found on the other side surprised him: clarity, stillness, the sense of being present in his own life again.
In 2024, R and his team made Bagby part of the Shield Your Body family. For R, a way to carry his mission further. For Juan, a way to hand the work to people who believed in it as much as he did.
What we believe
Every feature on a phone is built to hold your attention. That is not a flaw in the design. It is the design. We just think some parts of life (the bedroom, the morning, the dinner table) deserve to run differently.
So we make things that don't compete with your phone for your attention. A clock that wakes you without a screen. A place to set the phone down that makes it easy to leave it there. Nothing to install, nothing to pair, nothing to charge. Quieter ways to begin and end the day.
The world can wait. Your bedroom is yours.
